I adopted a bench. It was homeless and needed a home that would show a little TLC. My foyer was empty and feeling neglected too, so, Mr. Cozi and I bought it from a nice man at the 181 Flea Market here in Fairhope and brought it home.
Although it was a happy purchase, it looked a little dark and dreary in it’s new home, so I decided to give it a little attention to cheer us all up. Here’s a sneak peak of how it turned out…
Here are a few before pictures:
The tender loving care included removing the glued-on trim, removing the upholstery, painting, waxing and then reupholstering with a nail head trim. It took a few days, but I am very pleased with the results.
- I used a steamer to soften the glue and remove the trim. This was actually the easiest part of the job.
- Then I painted the entire piece with 2 coats of Amy Howard Chalk-paint in Chelsea and used a dark wax.
- I added the upholstery and attached the nail heads. (Sorry, I forgot to get pictures of this process, but it was fairly easy.) I used the nail heads that were on a roll and just had to add nails at 4 space intervals.
Doesn’t it look so much cheerier?
It is now a welcoming piece to come home to and helps define my entrance.
We have an open floor plan and there was no place for furniture in the foyer… Until I adopted a bench.
