White Trash Treasure – Kentucky Bourbon Box

Today’s White Trash Treasure is a Goodwill find. You see cheese-boxes similar to this all over Pinterest, so I thought it might be worth a little update. This Kentucky Bourbon Box would look great on an easel on top of your kitchen cabinets. It would make a great gift or could be used for storage in your pantry.

Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Cake Box

I decided I wanted it to look similar to a bourbon barrel, so I started out with a MinWax Stain in Pecan.

Pecan Minwax

Add it to your bar cart to hold utensils, corks or place small glass jars of garnishes inside for your next cocktail party.

I applied one coat of pecan stain.

How could a pecan color be wrong on a cake box? I mean pecans go with everything, right?

Kentucky Bourbon Box as Hostess Gift

I painted the box band black and stained the bottom rim to match the top. Then I applied a polyurethane sealer for a tiny bit of shine and to seal the stain/paint.

You could prepare your favorite Kentucky Bourbon Cake or Pie and give it as a hostess gift during the holidays. Save it for the next Kentucky Derby party and fill it with horseshoe shaped cookies, or better yet… iced derby hat cookies!

How would you use this little gem? You can find it at Southern Antiques and Antiques for only $7.90. And just in time for Ladies Night on the third Tuesday!!! It could be fun to use at the next Polo at the Point picnic here in Fairhope. If you’d like to order it for the Kentucky Derby, leave a comment and I will get in touch with you.
